Becoming A professional Photographer?

Feels like blogging now..hehhe! back from my unstable emotion (getting better and better..) :P, Huh, so now you want to be a professional photographer? i you were to ask me this handsome question i will say….NO, i am not interested to be a professional Photographer, seriously…no kidding i will stay as an amateur photographer :P.

Why was that? for me being a professional doesn’t makes any different with amateur photographer why. Before you started to think and say that person is a professional photographer, have you ever think how many shot needed to be taken to get the best shot? I bet you may never knew this before right? some common things between amateur and professional photographer are:

1) To have a great shot, they normally take more then one shot, and i can tell you it is more on experimental shot

2) Photo Editor Software is a must (eg,Photoshop)

3) They Still take blur photo :)

I think i don’t have the rights to comment about professional photographer ha? hehe, well consider my sister situation the other day:

My sister took a wedding package with one of the biggest wedding photography shop somewhere in Asia city and still there just relocated. So my sister paid for her wedding photo for RM5000.00 wokey? just the photo and i remember there is indoor shot and outdoor too.

after photo session done, then photo developed and ready for my sister to view and select her best photo (which the photographer consider that is the best photo taken). Then my sister who is not a professional photographer said, huh that’s ugly photos and i don’t want this photo at all!

However, my sister mistake was, she already paid full amount for that lame service. However my sister is smart, she complained that their service sucks and even intimidated the shop owner to get her a new photo shoot session and she got it. I guess, that’s ruined my trust to a professional photographer ha? :) well nobody perfect in the first place ya!

So i sometimes feels, there is no such things as a professional photographer if they still have to snap multiple photos just to get the right photos! hahaha

So i decided to be an amateur forever!

Man-DDecember 11th, 2007 at 2:06 pm

Diabilang: That’s why, they said they are professional but…actually there is no such things as professional in photography, as people take photo base on their imagination and creativity and again, no photo editor software photo will still look dull.

Mandy: well mandy, thanks for supporting me lols!, Anna rina, visited her page and well photo manipulation (photo editing) used in her photos alot :)

to be honest, i don’t think spending like 2000 above for photos like that is worth to spend hehe as..i see just a normal photo there… thou am not expert but hmm …that’s my opinion anyway.

i rather have two photographer during my wedding (amateur one) but with sample of photos taken, rather than having one professional photographer :P (expensive one)

florenceDecember 12th, 2007 at 2:53 am

yup .. agree with ben .. it is not as easy as we tot when it come to take a great photo .. everything have to be rite. d light , enviroment, d people .. but wat make a different is that the pro could SEE thing and manipulate the camera to produce better pics. in my experience .. those yg pro amik in studio could not make a good pics outdoor. im into a photojournalism kind of thing( LEARNING - n looking for a MENTOR !!) capturing the moment bah yg penting. lau mo p pose d studio .. bila2 jak.. hahahha tHe studio u guys was talking about . 3 of my gf went there .. all d pics look d same… hahahah…

i bet u guys know LouisPang.com. gosh !! he is making a lot of money from photojournalism.

diabilangDecember 12th, 2007 at 5:57 am

bennyliew.comDecember 12th, 2007 at 6:06 am

Florence: Yeah he’s making money with his works. But i don’t think i have the money to hire him. that’s lots of money which i rather have 3 person to take photos of my wedding day :) lols.

Diabilang: your cousin must be darn rich ah?hehe i heard he is like thousands ringgit value kekeke..but seriously…i will never ever to get a n expensive photographer just for my wedding day.

Enough to have a semi pro / amateur photographer to take my wedding photos ( 2 person would be better, more angle..more moments can be captured)

huhuhu.

diabilangDecember 12th, 2007 at 6:19 am

ben: yep. he only choose those people with lots of money. I dont know my cousin taste…as long as my photo is okay and nice to see..and most important is i have something to remember about on my wedding day…

what i like is candid photos…so you can laugh about… not all your face is pretty eh…sometimes ugly one is ok… :8)

bennyliew.comDecember 12th, 2007 at 7:57 am

Diabilang: Yeah different people different taste la..kan..if they got the money should be no problem i guess hehe…

FlaneganDecember 13th, 2007 at 11:52 pm

1 spent 1 place to shoot for 2 hours just to get the right lighting and composition….

Photo Retouching is necessary for me..
But editting is important because Digital is not like Film SLR ( You can choose variety of Slidefilm that can give you the right color and contrast).

If you check out all the photographers have their own exhibition.. Most of their Environmental Portrait are blur.
One of many photographers Blur Portrait can sell up to USD20k. It’s all about FIne Art Printing.

Yeah, check more 1800’s photographer and early 1900’s photographer if you really wanna get into Professional Field as in really Professional not like in KK.

Buy more Photographer’s Book INdex rather than Photography Magazine that give tips..

bennyDecember 14th, 2007 at 8:14 am

Flanegan: Thanks for dropping by ya, :), about the blur things i meant for hand shake problem when capturing the photo (not a photo that is purposely taken for blur effect)

i am actually not interested to be professional…i guess this will be my hobbies only nothing much than that :)

i do buy books but not so many, quite expensive ;)

i believe you are into photography also right?

FlaneganDecember 16th, 2007 at 5:39 pm

Ya, most of the photographer shot portrait didnt use tripod and wish for unblur photos but it turn out blur because of hand shake. The picture they didnt choose but the exhibitionist or critic always love weird photos.
So they ended up using the blur photo instead of the unblur one.

I’m a 1st year Photography Student… :) Now in KK for Summer Holiday.. Will back to Melbourne continue my 2nd year.

bennyDecember 16th, 2007 at 7:46 pm

Flanegan: Wah so nice taking photography course ya! huhu nice one! :) how i wish i can do that lols..

Yeah..i think the judges for photos is people who has weird interest lols..

i think they see things in a different perspective lols.

LouisJanuary 2nd, 2008 at 6:26 am

Benny: It is true that no professional photographers are perfect and that we make mistakes. What is the definition of a pro photog? Basically someone who makes at least 51% of his/her income from photography. Like professional football players, there are good ones and there are shamefully lousy ones that wear our national colours.

So it is not enough to hire a professional photog, you must make sure you hire a good one…one that creates high quality work consistently.

bennyJanuary 2nd, 2008 at 6:39 am

Louis: thanks for dropping by, always stalk and read your blog :)

but when its come to photography, i believe you are making more than 51% right?

so basically…that one that produce the best photo quality will win the game and it’s a subjective things i believe.

LouisJanuary 2nd, 2008 at 6:49 am

Benny: Photography is my full time job.

There is no such thing as the BEST photographer…at least I do not believe in it. One man’s dung is another man’s fertilizer. I only aim to be better than I was last week. Being the best is a status quo, it is a plateau.

As a client, it is important that you connect with the photographer. Do you feel comfortable around him? Do you love his work? Do you trust him? These are vital questions a client must ask.

About Photoshop & expensive gear…these are only tools, brushes and paint for the artist. Just because we have the same brushes and oil paint that Van Gogh used, does it mean that we’ll come out with masterpieces of Van Gogh’s caliber?

bennyJanuary 2nd, 2008 at 7:29 am

Louis: happy to hear you also don’t believe the best photographer…as to my understanding, no matter what profession u are in..we all still have to learn learn learn and learn…

i totally agree with you that the client and the photographer must click to each other to produce the best photos quality result.
