Sony DSLR-A200 camera

Finally Sony has announced the new DSLR-A200 camera! with the introduction of the new Alpha DSLR-A200 Camera , Sony believe they had done the great work in advancing the Digital SLR category for mainstream photographers. For those who is SONY DSLR camera fan this is what you might want have at the end of this January.
According to Sony press release “The new model is designed to be faster, lighter and easier to use. Upgraded features include a wider, 2.7-inch Clear Photo LCDTM screen for easy playback viewing; a more compact body and an easily-accessible mode dial; an easy-to-use function menu (camera function display); improved noise control for higher quality images; an auto focus speed 1.7x faster than the previous model; improved predictive control performance; quieter shutter sound; automatic pop-up flash; and a battery life indicator that displays the percentage of battery life remaining so you know exactly when to recharge.”
As seen in all ? (alpha) camera bodies, the DSLR-A200 camera incorporates Super SteadyShot? image stabilization in the body to allow shooting at shutter speeds of 2.5 to 3.5 steps slower than otherwise possible – a benefit realized with every compatible lens attached to the camera. Compatible lenses encompass all Minolta Maxxum? mount lenses, in addition to Sony a (alpha) lens lineup - including Carl Zeiss? lenses.
“With the DSLR-A200, we are helping consumers capture high-quality images with advanced technology that’s practical and easy to use,” said Phil Lubell, director of marketing for digital cameras at Sony Electronics. “This model is an ideal step-up for point-and-shoot users who are looking for a camera that can capture virtually all of the photographs they want.”
With its 10.2-megapixel (effective) APS CCD image sensor, the DSLR-A200 camera continues to offer high-quality images by allowing more light to pass through to each pixel – increasing sensitivity, reducing noise, and providing greater detail.
Clean, reduced-noise signals are sent from the image sensor to Sony’s BIONZ processing engine, which processes data-rich picture information at high speeds and reduces picture noise in the RAW data stage before image JPEG conversion. The results are high-resolution, detailed images with rich tonal reproduction.
The DSLR-A200 model supports JPEG and RAW file format support. It has a slot for CompactFlash Type I/II media cards. An adaptor for Memory Stick Duo? media cards is sold separately as an accessory.

manD: is it? one thing i know bout this camera is the price is expensive even my boss bot his a100 camera pun mcm dekat2 rm10k gitu…thats wat i heard…
Well Melle, as I said, I donno much abt it…ini pun my friend yg advice jan beli…
Ben: if u want to buy this camera better if u buy from kl bcoz here they didnt give u much accessories…
Mandy: yeah..but i don’t actually favor Sony Digital camera, as their company was started as an
home entertainment product and not for camera
Melle: i don’t think i want to buy this camera..but for those who is a diehard fan of sony..they might want to know about this new camera DSLR right
and maybe considering buying it righ ahhaha
Ben, yeahh…u r right..that’s why I use Canon…my previous Cam pun canon juga…hehehe…
so canon better? or?
Kok: basically i am in love with canon, but some people prefer nikon. but when it’s come to DSLR camera, people will normally go for Canon or nikon
Sony started to dive into the dSLR business when they bought Konica Minolta at 2006. All Alpha dSLR (A100, A 200, A 700, A300 & A350) are based on one high end model of Konica Minolta SLR.
Why people say don’t buy Sony? I heard about this and did some research. I come up with 2 points.
1. People think the only lens available for Alpha is all Carl Zeiss lens and Sony own lenses that they recently developed.
Sony Alpha uses Alpha mount, the same lens mount they used in the Konica Minolta (the one that I mentioned earlier). So, most Konica Minolta lenses can be used on Alpha mount.
All the features in the Alpha wont be compromise when using the Konica Minolta lenses. A friend confirmed me this, because he got a collection of Konica lenses.
2. Sony entered the dSLR market and boomed the marketplace with plenty of production in a short term. This somehow creates fuss from other brand users because they think to be superior in dSLR business is to be in the business for a very long time.
So, this is more about brand camp fighting each other determining who’s better than who. Besides, some magazine reviews A200 is competent with other brand new cameras. Meaning to say, Sony Alpha is going up to the par with the big name in dSLR industry.
Best thing to do is study your budget on body, your budget on lenses (this will be a very long term investments), the features that you might think suitable with your skills and preferences.
With the new A300 and A350 entering the market (the only differences between the two are the additional 4 mp in the A350), the price of A100 dropped to around RM 1,500 for body and kit lens. That is also caused by the A200 whom entered the market with the introductory price of RM 1,999.00, cheaper than A100 at that time.
*The latest I heard, most photographers in USA change camp to Sony, so we can expect the price of some exotic Konica Minolta lenses will increase now.
** Sony Alpha will come out with the upgraded version of A700 this year, but it wont be named A900 (for some unforeseen reason) but it surely be a competitor for other brand full frame camera. Yes, it will be a full frame camera.
Well, that’s all I can share. If you think this is wrong, please share it here.
saifulrizan: yea im a diehard sony gamer, and sony dslr catches my eyes (and their vaio too).
and yes, i also heard that sony a200 can use other lenses beside their own sony lens. minolta, tamron, and (yay!) sigma.
Only few Sigma lenses can be used on Alpha mount.
Tamron, I’m not sure.
Minolta, yes, of course.
Saiful: Ya now Tamron also available for Sony…
saifulrizan,
More than a few Sigma lenses work on the KM/Sony Alpha mount. More than half of my 18 lenses are Sigma made.:)
Cotay,
Sorry, didn’t realise about that back then. Was new to Alpha.
Wow this post still get comments. So since I’m using this A200, I drop by a comment also lah.. so far so good. U guys can see the pics on my blog. No complaints from me! Pictures are super vibrant and nice! Heh.. Oh yea Benny, saw u and Japrin last night at the Gala Nite, I sat with my cousin Octivian punya table. I took pics oso, but only jauh2 lah.. u guys syok oh, take pics right in the middle of everyone!
I have had several digital cameras, and this is my first dslr. I love taking pictures with it, especially action shots. Super fast auto focus, choices of programs etc. are found on lots of dslr’s. The reason I bought this one is that it accepts Minolta af lenses and the anti-shake technology is in the camera and not in the lens. This makes additional lenses much more affordable.
getting a new Sony A200, single or twin lense? where can i get it for the better package and price in kk? what do u think benny?
Henry: I can’t comment anything on Sony, Because i never used one..but since you haven’t bought your DSLR yet, Why not..you consider the two strong brand? Canon and NIkon?
If you’re still going for Sony A200, get the twin kit lens. The 18-70 works very well on outdoor shooting. The 75-300 might be tricky to use, as you can’t rotate the lens straight from 75 to 300; you got to stop at 200 to lock the focus before proceed to anywhere between 200 and 300. Anyway, you still got plenty of choices from Minolta lens and other third party lens.
Back to topic, get the twin kit lens. The 75-300 street price at RM 900 something, when you can bargain it RM 300 lesser when you buy the twin kit.
henry, go for twin lens. And to Sony Centre at Wisma Merdeka.
Henry, There you go Saiful and jacq (Sony user) already gave their prompt and informative answer i guess it will really help…
